Coming Soon
An introduction to the blog and what I'll be focusing on.
Hello! I'm Lucas and this is my swanky new blog.
I've always toyed with the idea of starting a blog about my interests, but have never gone beyond the ideas phase - until now that is. I want to share my experiences in somewhere a little more formal than Instagram, and so a dedicated website felt like the right place.
This site will serve as a place for all sorts of topics, but mainly classified into these key areas:
- Flutter development
- Food & drink
- Adventures with my cameras
Flutter Development
I've been a developer for a little over five years at the time of writing, spending that time across a range of roles, working my way up from a junior Flutter engineer at a fledgling startup, gradually rising the ranks to get to where I am now.
I've been making Flutter apps since 2019, targeting Android, iOS and web platforms. In that time I've learned so much, and I've seen Google's development framework grow and evolve so much. What was once quite a basic tool is now responsible for almost a third of apps in the App Store! Having jumped on the Flutter bandwagon near the beginning, I've been a driving force in spreading the love, appearing at events like FlutterLDN, as well as being responsible for the inception of Flutter North - a Flutter community for developers based in the North of the UK.
Food & Drink
I'm something of a gourmand, meaning I'm always on the lookout for a new restaurant or coffee shop to try out. When I'm on my travels I always spend time obsessing over where to eat each day - life's too short for mediocrity after all.
I love food at both ends of the spectrum, from the Michelin-starred eateries you queue round the block for, to the cheap and cheerful places with slightly more dubious food hygiene scores. As long as the experience is memorable and worth the bill at the end, I'm sold. I post more frequent, short-form content of this nature on Instagram, but plan to add longer write-ups here.
In addition to visiting restaurants, I'm also a keen home cook and love spending my time in the kitchen, always trying out new recipes. I've spent the last few years perfecting my bread technique, so watch this space for that - I promise the waffle at the start will be minimal!
Adventures with my Cameras
I've been collecting film cameras for several years now, and while I'm still nowhere near a professional photographer, I love the process of going out and taking pictures on my travels. Each camera comes with its own quirks, making each roll of film a unique time capsule of a holiday, a weekend away or even just a random Tuesday afternoon.
I want to use this blog as a place to share not only my cameras and the photos they take but also as an opportunity to discuss the adventures I've been on, from solo travel in a Tokyo capsule hotel, to a hastily-assembled lads trip to the Chernobyl exclusion zone in 2018. My trips are a little different to most, but always packed with memories.
I'm sure I'll probably stray beyond these main topics at times but this is currently where I want the focus to lie, so if this sounds like something you might be interested then drop us a follow! The first article is on its way soon...
